Protect the Nolichucky: Speak Out Against the Horizon 30 Mine

Protect the Nolichucky: Speak Out Against the Horizon 30 Mine

At Appalachian Outdoors Collective, we’re raising serious concerns about the proposed Horizon 30 mining operation near Poplar, NC. This construction aggregate mine would be located in the headwaters of the Nolichucky River, a region cherished for its clean water, outdoor recreation, and ecological value.

The Nolichucky is more than a river—it’s a lifeline for local communities, paddlers, anglers, hikers, and countless species that rely on its waters. Horizon 30’s mining operation could pose long-term risks to this fragile watershed, threatening everything from water quality to public access.

This is our moment to stand up for the Nolichucky and speak out for responsible land use in the Appalachian region.
